29. Oktober 2026NEW COMPETITION RULES FOR THE UPCOMING SEASON!
Important updates for all Dance Unit dancers, teachers, and dance schools!
We are excited to announce the updated Dance Unit Rules and Regulations for the upcoming competition season!
To ensure a fair, exciting, and smooth competition experience for everyone, we have updated our competition regulations. Whether you are a dance school, teacher, choreographer, or dancer, it is important to familiarize yourself with the latest rules before entering the competition.
Here are some of the most important points to keep in mind!
What you need to know:
AGE CATEGORIES
The age of each dancer is determined on January 1st of the competition year.
For Duo, Trio, and Quartet routines, the age category is determined by the oldest participant. For Small Group and Group routines, the average age of all dancers determines the age category.
In Solo categories, dancers must compete in the age group corresponding to their own age.
CATEGORIES & TIME LIMITS
Make sure your choreography meets the requirements for your category!
Solo: 1 dancer | 1:00–2:00 minutes
Pair / Trio / Quartet: 2–4 dancers | 1:00–2:00 minutes
Small Group: 5–10 dancers | 2:00–3:00 minutes
Group: 11 or more dancers | 2:00–3:30 minutes
Open-Show / Sing Performance Group: 2:00–4:30 minutes
Solo Improvisation: 1:00 minute
Please note that Ballet is an exception, as music duration may follow the original choreography.
MUSIC & DEADLINES
All music must be uploaded as an MP3 file through the Contest Pro registration portal no later than 10 days before the competition.
A backup USB containing the music must also be brought to the competition.
Please ensure that your music meets the time limits and does not contain explicit lyrics. Music containing offensive, racist, or sexist content will result in disqualification of the routine.
REGISTRATION & CHANGES
Planning ahead is essential!
Registration is possible up to 28 days before the competition, provided places are still available.
Registration fees and entry fees must be paid within 28 days. Otherwise, reserved places will be automatically cancelled.
Changes to registrations must be submitted and paid for through Contest Pro no later than 7 working days before the competition.
Changes after the registration deadline are subject to a fee of €60 per change and per dance entry.
The number of dancers performing on stage will be checked against the number registered in Contest Pro. Additional dancers may result in a €75 fee per dancer or disqualification.
Please make sure all registrations and dancer information are correct and complete.
PARTICIPATION & COMPETITION LIMITS
There are specific limits regarding how often dancers may participate in each category and discipline.
Dancers may compete once per discipline in the Solo category.
In other categories, dancers may compete a maximum of twice per discipline and category. For Duo, Trio, and Quartet routines, this is only permitted with different dance partners. The same applies to Small Group and Group routines.
A dancer may also be registered with a maximum of two different institutions and may compete a maximum of twice per discipline and category across both schools.
QUALIFICATION FOR THE WORLD FINALS
To participate in the Dance Unit WORLD FINALS, dancers must qualify through an official Dance Unit Qualifier or the Dance Unit Online Competition.
A routine must achieve at least 67 points to qualify for the WORLD FINALS.
Please remember that qualification alone does not automatically register your routine for the WORLD FINALS. Participation must be confirmed and paid for through the Contest Pro registration portal no later than 20 days before the event.
STAGE & PERFORMANCE RULES
To ensure a safe and professional competition environment, all dancers, teachers, and schools must follow the stage and performance regulations.
Some important quick facts:
- Choreographies should be adapted to the abilities and possibilities of the dancers.
- Dancers under the age of 12 may not wear pointe shoes during competitions.
- Props must be an integral part of the performance and meet the required fire safety standards.
- Props must generally be brought onto and removed from the stage by the dancers themselves. Minis may be assisted by up to two teachers or supervisors.
- Stage setup and removal are limited to 20 seconds each. Exceeding this limit results in a deduction of 10 points per violation. Open-Show Group routines are allowed 30 seconds.
- Special lighting effects, living props, glass props, flames, liquids, confetti, and other materials requiring stage cleaning are not permitted.
- Failure to comply with the regulations may result in a warning, penalty points, or disqualification.
